He follows the sound and sees a mouse tied to a tree with the bell and decides to help free the mouse, not knowing that the mouse is being used as bait to trap an animal by the villainous poacher McLeach. This good deed endears the mouse to Cody, leading the Bait-mouse to call upon the Rescuers in this sequence found starting near the 14:30 timestamp.
