Depicting a Roman soldier wearing his distinctive helmet and armor, the drawing captures the expressive cartoon design and lively draftsmanship characteristic of the Asterix animated productions.

Executed in red pencil on paper, this preliminary character study reveals the artist’s construction lines and successive strokes, offering a fascinating glimpse into the character-design process behind the film. The exaggerated facial features, elongated face, prominent nose and carefully developed helmet give the soldier a distinctive personality, even in this unfinished study. Based on the beloved comic-book series by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo, Asterix and Caesar’s Surprise follows Asterix and Obelix as they enlist in the Roman army in an attempt to rescue their friends Falbala and Tragicomix. Original preparatory drawings from the film provide a tangible connection to the creation of this classic European animated feature.

Size: 40 x 31 cm

The drawing is sold unframed.

SOLD WITH A CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0865/0725/8186/files/Asterix_Character_Concept_Art_Drawing_01.jpg?v=1792677456
