Sleeping Beauty : Flora Original Animation Production Art Drawing (Walt Disney, 1959).
"Their most honored and exalted excellencies, the three good fairies! Mistress Flora! Mistress Fauna! And Mistress Merryweather!" Flora, the benevolent leader of the three good fairies, watches as Fauna and Merryweather are introduced by King Stefan's herald here in this 16 field 3-peghole animation drawing from Sleeping Beauty. The drawing was created for the scene at the beginning of the film near 5:21 while they wait to give the newborn Princess Aurora their gifts of beauty, song, and sleep. Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather were based on the seven fairies from the original tale by Charles Perrault and were animated by Disney Legends and two of Disney's "Nine Old Men" Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston, who both excelled at animating character interactions, emotions, and personalities. Walt Disney originally wanted the fairies to have the same personality, similar to Donald's nephews, but Thomas and Johnston were able to convince him to give them more unique personalities. This full figure graphite with color pencil drawing showcase Flora's inherent leadership and her caring, motherly personality, ensuring the youngest of them is situated before moving to greet Aurora's parents.
