« Tugboat Mickey » Mickey Mouse Classic Cartoon - Original Production Used Pan Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1940).
« Hey! Hey, look out!" Mickey almost falls to the deck of his ship after a pelican crashes into him, intoxicated from the wood varnish the mouse was using on the mast. He manages to hang on, but just barely. The Clyde Geronimi-directed short was released to theaters on 4/26/1940 and followed Mickey, Donald, and Goofy as they tried to answer a distress signal from a nearby ship. They didn't succeed, destroying their own ship instead. This wonderful pan-sized drawing captures this hilarious moment in graphite with color pencil. It can be found at about the 1:54 mark and measures about 8.75'' x 6'' on 24'' x 10'' animation paper. The drawing numbers 22 in the lower right corner. This fantastic lot has minor edge and handling wear, light edge and handling wear, and a faint vertical fold in the center. Very good condition.
The paper used by Disney studios in the 1930s contains a distinctive watermark, visible in one of the photos, which further attests to its authenticity.
